Obligatory New Year Goals Post
Because it's what one does.
It’s been—checks watch—a long time since I posted. There are many reasons for that, in addition to the normal reasons for everything going wrong right now.
I really loved sending out a semi-regular newsletter last year, but by June the pressure of so many writing projects in and out of work started to wear on me.
And then there was the pressure of trying to figure out how to write more within the niche I had chosen for myself. I felt like I was doing a good job keeping up with this mom-blog-but-with-a-purpose thing, but ultimately it’s feeling really restrictive. I still have a lot of thoughts on lots of issues (Why are children’s books so poorly written? Why is daycare broken? What does it mean to include mom within a whole list of other identities?), but I’d also like to use this space to write about other things. Conventional wisdom dictates that I should start up another newsletter/blog for all the other stuff, and maybe I will eventually, but for right now I think it’s more important that I write and publish than figure out any coherent box to shove all that writing in.
My goal for 2022 is to write and publish more. Not necessarily about motherhood or daycare, but not not about some of those things, too. Hope you come along for the ride.
